Glenforsa Airfield is a distinctive and privately-owned grass airstrip nestled on the scenic east coast of the Isle of Mull, adjacent to the Glenforsa Hotel. Built by the Royal Engineers in 1965, its primary initial purpose was to serve as Mull’s sole fixed-wing air ambulance evacuation facility, a crucial lifeline for the island. Today, it continues its vital role in supporting emergency services, while also serving as a unique and popular destination for general aviation.

The airfield features a single grass runway, approximately 730-785 meters long, oriented along the coast with picturesque views of the Sound of Mull. It caters primarily to light aircraft, offering a unique landing experience on one of Scotland’s few unspoiled grass strips. While unlicensed, it attracts a steady stream of visiting pilots and aviation enthusiasts, drawn by its stunning location and the convenience of direct access to the island.

Beyond its functional role, Glenforsa Airfield has become an attraction in its own right, celebrated for its tranquil setting and the charm it adds to the Glenforsa area. It is a well-regarded base for exploring Mull, providing an alternative arrival point to the ferries. The airfield also hosts the annual Mull Air Rally, a highlight for the aviation community, further solidifying its status as a notable landmark on the island.
