Michael Chapel is a free-standing structure exemplifying the simple yet elegant West Highland architectural style. Its north wall features a window with continuous roll-and-hollow moulding and a cusped ogival head, dating from the late medieval period. Inside, the chapel boasts a beautifully curved ceiling and furnishings crafted from African wood, reflecting the careful modern restoration it has undergone.

Today, Michael Chapel remains a place of worship and quiet reflection. It is open to visitors and hosts services organized by the Iona Community. During the winter season, from mid-November to early March, daily worship takes place at 9:30 am, with additional services at 7:30 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

Located within the Iona Abbey complex, just a short walk from the ferry terminal in Baile Mòr, Michael Chapel offers visitors an opportunity to appreciate its architecture and participate in spiritual activities. The chapel and surrounding abbey provide a peaceful and enriching experience, making it an important site in Scotland’s Christian heritage.
