Ragdolls by the Sea: A Unique Pairing
Ragdoll cats are renowned for their docile nature, striking blue eyes, and luxurious, semi-longhaired coats. They’re typically indoor companions, content to lounge in sunny spots and demand cuddles. Luna and Misty, however, have clearly not read the instruction manual. Four-year-old Luna is the seasoned adventurer, spending a significant amount of her time outdoors, fearlessly navigating the island’s varied terrain. Her younger sister, Misty, having just turned one, is still on a lead, but her youthful energy and insatiable curiosity mean she’s hot on Luna’s heels, soaking up every lesson in outdoor exploration. Their contrasting ages and personalities create a dynamic duo, each inspiring the other to embrace Mull’s wild beauty.
Beach Strolls and Ocean Paws: A Day in the Life
A typical day for Luna and Misty often involves a trip to the beach (weather permitting). You’ll find Luna, with her tail held high, confidently leading the way, while Misty, securely on her lead, meticulously investigates every rock pool, sniffing out hidden treasures and curious creatures. They revel in the sensory overload of the coastline – the salty air, the feel of the sand between their paws, and the symphony of crashing waves and crying gulls.
And speaking of gulls, Luna has a particular, if often unsuccessful, pastime: stalking them. We’ve often watched her in full stealth mode, eyes fixed on an unsuspecting flock. One memorable time, her dedication was truly remarkable: she waded through the shallow water, with only the top of her head visible, inching closer and closer to a group of gulls. It was a masterclass in feline camouflage, almost. Of course, her ingenious plan was eventually foiled, and the gulls wisely took flight, leaving Luna with a look of mock surprise, as if to say, “Who, me? I was just admiring the view!”
The Call of the Ocean: More Than Just a Paddle
Perhaps the most astonishing detail about Luna and Misty’s island existence is their sheer delight in the sea itself. Unlike most felines who view water with disdain, our Ragdolls are true aquatic enthusiasts! Luna, with her adventurous spirit, was the first to discover the joy of paddling, and ever-curious Misty quickly followed her lead. They aren’t diving into the depths, but they certainly relish a good paddle in the shallows. Luna confidently ventures into the slightly deeper fringes where her paws can still touch, while Misty meticulously investigates every rock pool, exploring the clear, calm waters. Of course, their safety is always our top priority, with all their watery escapades closely supervised.

The Joys (and Challenges) of Adventurous Cats
Sharing our lives with these adventurous Ragdolls brings immense joy and endless entertainment. Their outdoor exploits provide them with incredible physical exercise and mental stimulation, fostering a unique bond between us. It’s truly special to watch Misty’s confidence blossom as she learns from her older sister, seeing the world through Luna’s experienced eyes.

For those curious about how we manage such adventurous felines, it’s a mix of careful training, appropriate gear (like harnesses and leads for Misty), and crucially, understanding their individual limits and personalities. And the reactions we get from locals and tourists are always priceless – the sight of two Ragdolls on leashes, one often taking a dip, certainly isn’t an everyday occurrence on Mull!

The Enduring Charm of Luna and Misty
Luna and Misty are more than just pets; they’re integral members of our island family, living proof that even the most domesticated animals can embrace the wild side. Their adventures on the Isle of Mull, from stalking seagulls to splashing in the sea, remind us to embrace curiosity and find joy in the unexpected.
