Cragaig Bothy offers a truly unique and remote off-grid experience on the wild south side of the community-owned Isle of Ulva, just off the west coast of Mull. This renovated bothy provides basic yet cosy accommodation for those seeking simplicity and solitude amidst breathtaking natural beauty. There is no electricity or modern services, encouraging guests to disconnect and immerse themselves in the tranquil surroundings. Despite its rustic nature, the bothy features a wood-burning stove for heat and hot water, along with a gas cooker for preparing meals.
Access to Cragaig Bothy is part of its adventure, reachable only by foot after approximately a two-hour walk from the Ulva Ferry slipway, or by sea via kayak or boat. Guests must bring all their own supplies from Mull, including food, sleeping bags, and towels, as there are no shops on Ulva. This remote location rewards visitors with magnificent panoramic views stretching out to Iona, Staffa, and the Treshnish Islands, providing an unparalleled sense of peace and isolation.
Operating typically from April to the end of October, Cragaig Bothy is renowned for its stunning scenery and abundant wildlife, including white-tailed sea eagles, golden eagles, otters, and red deer. It offers a genuine opportunity to live simply and connect deeply with nature, away from the distractions of modern life. This unique escape was recently featured on the BBC TV show “Designing the Hebrides,” highlighting its charm and appeal as a secluded island retreat.
