Fishnish Ferry Port is strategically located on the east coast of the Isle of Mull, roughly halfway between Tobermory and Craignure. Operated by Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac), it serves as a crucial “turn up and go” vehicle and foot passenger ferry link to Lochaline on the Morvern peninsula of the Scottish mainland. This route is particularly popular for visitors arriving from or heading to the north of Scotland, offering a shorter sea crossing of approximately 18-20 minutes across the Sound of Mull. While it’s not a bookable service for specific sailings, CalMac strongly advises purchasing tickets in advance, especially for vehicles, to ensure carriage, as the ferry is often busy.
Fishnish Ferry Port itself is more of a functional rather than extensive terminal, primarily consisting of a slipway with a vehicle queuing area stretching back onto the road. There is a small terminal building on site which includes a waiting area and public toilets, and sometimes a small cafe. Free Wi-Fi and a car park are also available. It’s an unstaffed location outside of peak periods, so for detailed enquiries, it’s best to contact the Tobermory ferry terminal. Surrounding the port, visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of the area, including opportunities for wildlife spotting in the Sound of Mull and access to the Fishnish Forest for walks, making it more than just a transit point.
