Goat Cave Natural Arch is a notable and recognized geological feature on the east coast of the Isle of Staffa. While not as widely known as Fingal’s Cave, it is a spectacular natural formation carved by the sea from the same columnar basalt rock that defines the island’s unique landscape. The arch is one of several caves and features on the island’s eastern side and is a testament to the powerful and persistent forces of nature.

The arch itself is a rocky tube approximately 20 metres long and five metres wide, formed by the erosion of the ancient volcanic columns. It is part of a rugged shoreline of shingle and cobble, providing a unique vantage point to admire the dramatic rock formations. The area around the arch is a point of interest for geologists and visitors who want to explore beyond the more-trodden paths to experience the island’s remarkable geology.

Due to its location on the eastern side of the island, the arch is most safely viewed during low tides and calm sea conditions. Its official name and documented presence in geological records underscore its importance as a part of Staffa’s natural heritage. This stunning arch offers a unique and memorable sight for those who venture to see it, adding to the rich and diverse landscape of the island.
