Founded by Joe and Dawn Reade, the business evolved from a local bakery started in 1994, transitioning to focus on organic biscuits in 2001. Their commitment to quality is evident in their exclusive use of organic ingredients, ensuring no GMOs, preservatives, artificial colours, flavours, or palm oil, with every component traceable to its source.
The bakery offers a wide and enticing range of products, including popular sweet varieties like Lemon Melts, Chocolate Gingers, and Shortbread. They also craft “Sweet FA” gluten-free and vegan cookies. A distinctive offering is their Isle of Mull Cheese Biscuits, made with cheese from the neighbouring family dairy, Sgriob Ruadh Farm, creating a unique local flavour. Island Bakery Organics operates from a purpose-built bakery, opened in 2012, that stands as a testament to their deep commitment to environmental sustainability. The facility is powered entirely by local renewable energy sources, including a hydro-electric turbine and a wind turbine, while their unique ovens are heated using local wood chip from Mull’s timber plantations. While the main bakery is not open to the public, an honesty shop outside offers 24/7 access to their delightful range.
