The Mull & Iona Food Trail is a collaborative initiative designed to showcase the exceptional food and drink produce of the Isle of Mull, Iona, and surrounding smaller islands like Ulva, Gometra, and Erraid. Launched in 2015, its primary purpose is to promote locally sourced food that is produced with respect for animal welfare and the environment, ensuring it tastes great and contributes to a strong sense of place.
This self-guided trail connects visitors and residents with over 40 producers and suppliers, including farms, seafood providers, cafes, restaurants, and shops that use or sell island ingredients. Annually, a detailed map/leaflet is printed and distributed, complemented by a comprehensive website listing all participants. The initiative helps consumers find everything from the freshest shellfish and award-winning cheeses to home-made haggis, expertly grown vegetables, and handcrafted chocolates.
The Mull & Iona Food Trail significantly bolsters the local economy and fosters sustainable practices by encouraging direct engagement with island producers. It not only provides a unique culinary journey for tourists but also strengthens the community’s access to high-quality, locally grown and caught food. The trail highlights the islands’ rich heritage of Hebridean hospitality and their commitment to delicious, responsible food production.
