The RNLI Tobermory Lifeboat Station is a vital emergency service operating from the picturesque harbour of Tobermory, on the Isle of Mull. Manned by a dedicated team of highly trained volunteers, the station provides a critical 24-hour search and rescue service for the waters around Mull, including the Sound of Mull, the Firth of Lorn, and the challenging coastline of the Inner Hebrides. Their primary mission is to save lives at sea, responding swiftly to callouts involving vessels in distress, medical emergencies, or individuals needing assistance in the often-unpredictable sea conditions of the west coast of Scotland.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) was founded in 1824, driven by the increasing need for organized sea rescue. Tobermory’s connection to maritime safety runs deep, and a lifeboat station was established here in 1904. Over its more than a century of service, the Tobermory lifeboat has launched countless times, with its crews risking their own lives to bring others to safety. The station has housed various classes of lifeboats over the decades, adapting its capabilities to meet the evolving demands of modern maritime traffic and rescue operations in this busy cruising ground.

Today, the Tobermory Lifeboat Station continues its essential work, relying entirely on public donations to fund its operations, training, and the maintenance of its state-of-the-art lifeboats. The volunteer crew undergoes rigorous training in navigation, casualty care, sea survival, and boat handling to ensure they are prepared for any emergency. Their unwavering commitment provides a crucial safety net for local mariners, commercial fishing vessels, ferry services, and the numerous leisure craft that frequent the stunning but often exposed waters surrounding Mull.

In an emergency, individuals should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
