Salen Primary School

Salen Primary School is a vibrant village school located on the East coast of the Isle of Mull, serving a wide catchment area. It is a well-established educational hub, known for its welcoming ethos and strong partnership between staff and parents, all working to encourage children to develop to their full potential. The school building, originally constructed in 1984, has been significantly improved with a £1.3 million investment, which included the creation of two high-quality Early Learning and Childcare spaces and three replacement classrooms. This modern infrastructure provides a comfortable and conducive learning environment for its pupils, who typically range from nursery age up to P7.

One of Salen Primary School’s distinctive features is its Gaelic Medium Unit and Gaelic pre-school, offering education in both English and Gaelic. The school places a strong emphasis on outdoor learning and sensory play, taking full advantage of its island setting. It boasts unique outdoor play areas designed to challenge and engage children of all ages, including a large timber play trail and sensory play zones with elements like a music wall and mud kitchens. The school also actively promotes eco-living and healthy eating, utilizing a small garden at the back of the school where children grow fruits and vegetables.
