Dun Aisgain near Burg is one of the better-preserved sites on this list, though it is still a ruin. Unlike many others that are mere mounds, sections of the outer wall face here still stand vertically to a height of around 2 meters on the north-west side. This allows visitors to see the original dry-stone construction technique rather than just a grassy bank.

The entrance passage is well-defined, and you can spot the “checks” in the masonry where a door would have been secured. The wall contains a gallery (passage) within its thickness, which is partly visible. Surrounding the main dun are the tumbled remains of an outer wall, now just a spread of stones.

Located on a rocky outcrop overlooking Loch Tuath, it is a key site for understanding what these duns originally looked like. While still a ruin, it offers more structural detail than most other duns on the island.
