Killiechronan Campsite offers 40 pitches in a simple but spectacular setting with sweeping views and abundant wildlife. The site is very basic, with no electric hook-ups, so visitors need to be self-sufficient. Toilet facilities are modest and located a short walk away, consisting of two toilets, a wash hand basin, and a wash-up sink, but there are no showers. Grey waste disposal is not available on-site, though this can be arranged at nearby locations for a small fee. The price is £7 per person per night, with children charged at half price, and no bookings are required – simply arrive and arrangements are made in the evenings.
The campsite lies on the shores of Loch na Keal, a sea loch that sweeps inland along Mull’s west coast. The Ardmeanach peninsula and Gribun cliffs rise along the southern shore, while the coastline stretches north past Killiechronan. Within the bay are the islands of Eorsa and Inch Kenneth, both uninhabited and adding to the area’s natural beauty.
Surrounded by woodland, hillsides, scree-covered peaks, and the tidal waters of the loch, the area offers much to explore. Wildlife is a major highlight, with the chance to spot Mull’s “big five”: sea eagles, deer, otters, seals, and occasionally dolphins. The region also provides excellent opportunities for hiking and cycling, with plenty of hidden gems waiting to be discovered around Loch na Keal.
